Local Food, Local Places – St. Albans City
September 16 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until September 17, 2019
A 1.5-day community workshop on the topic of local food and its potential for strengthening our local economy, supporting healthier people and neighborhoods, and revitalizing our downtown. We would love to see you at both Monday evening and Tuesday full day. RSVP as your schedule allows. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Northern Boarder Regional Commission have selected St. Albans City for the Local Foods, Local Places technical assistance program, which will result in an action plan for strengthening our local food economy and enlivening our downtown.
A team of these agency partners and their consultants will join local stakeholders to conduct a workshop in St. Albans City on Monday, September 16th and Tuesday, September 17th. Your participation and knowledge of the local area is needed to help make this event a success. The workshop will bring together many key stakeholders from throughout our region to develop an action plan primarily around, but not limited to, these goal areas:
- Increase access to healthy, local food, especially among food insecure populations.
- Support existing and establish new, financially viable local distribution channels to support small-scale agricultural producers.
- Increase the number of retail and social service outlets in St. Albans City procuring local food.
- Build a culture supporting local producers and food entrepreneurs by incorporating local food into downtown plans, branding, and events.
